Robert “Super-Mann” Blount wants everyone to know that it’s never too late to be Fit for Life.
Blount is hosting the 14th annual Fit For Life Weekend starting at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Shreveport Convention Center. The highlight of the day is the Optimum Classic Championships bodybuilding and physique competition. Blount expects 150 to 175 competitors from across the United States, Canada and Russia.
“We want people in the area to realize that this is something different,” he said. “They’ll have the chance to see the greatest physiques, and the temple of God at its highest level. These people’s bodies are incredible, and their competitive spirits are high, and they are some of the most generous people you’re ever going to meet.”
But the Fit For Life weekend is about more than bodybuilding. The goal is to inspire everyone to life a fit and healthy lifestyle. The Sports Expo will feature a variety of local health, fitness and nutrition vendors, as well as amateur boxing, Tae Kwon Do, karate, soccer and archery exhibitions. Expo events also include a USA Arm Wrestling tournament and a Family Fit Fun Zone.
Blount is committed to helping people of all ages take limits off of themselves to live a healthy lifestyle. He told the audience at Thursday’s sponsor appreciation luncheon that we must learn to make taking care of ourselves a priority in our lives.
“How can you not make time for yourself?,’ he asked the crowd. “Because if anything happens to you, everybody you’re giving all of your attention to loses anyway, because you’re dead.”
Sponsors for Fit For Life Weekend include the Shreveport Bossier Sports Commission, Shreveport Parks and Recreation, the Caddo Parish Commission, Caddo Schools, United Healthcare, and KTAL.
Admission to the Optimum Classic Championships is $25 for the morning sessions and $35 for the finals, which begin at 7 p.m. The free Sports Expo is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. All events are at the Shreveport Convention Center.
Blount invited anyone looking for inspiration to live a healthy lifestyle to come to Fit For Life Weekend.
“For people who want to get in shape, who want to get off the couch, people who think they are too old to exercise, too heavy to lose weight, they’ll come to this event and realize that they too can be fit for life,” he said.
